Let me share an ancient Hindu legend with you.
There was a time when all men and women who lived on earth were gods, but they abused their divinity so much that Brahma, the supreme god, decided to deprive them of the divine breath that was within them and hide it where they could never find it.
The big problem was finding the appropriate place. He studied many options, but none convinced him, until he thought of hiding it where human beings would never look, within themselves. And so he did. Hidden inside every man and woman there is something divine.
I think that Brahma was more condescending with us women, and left us that divine spark that is intuition, our authentic superior being. And, with awareness, intuition reconnects the sacred and creative expression that is the feminine energy here on earth.
Today I want to share with you some rituals that make me feel like the goddess that I am. They are very easy to follow, and I am sure they will reconnect you with your inner goddess, the one who loves and accepts herself unconditionally and enjoys to the fullest every minute that life gives us.
1. Create a ritual of unconditional love
Turn off the TV and stay away from social media for 15 minutes so you can stay focused while you pamper yourself. My favorite way to do this is to intentionally hydrate my skin. As I massage my feet, I thank them for taking me everywhere. I send my hands love for what they allow me to do, for the money that I have received and that I have given; to my arms and torso for the hugs that comfort me. In this way, I stop taking my body and my life for granted and realize how blessed I am.
2. Practice a daily affirmation
Another of my rituals is practicing positive affirmations of unconditional love. I usually try to have a positive conversation with myself and with the little voices that we all have inside. However, when the internal volume of judgment and self-criticism rise, I respond with one of my favorite mantras, “I am prosperous and abundant, I have at my disposal everything I need”, “I am health and energy”, “I am young and timeless”, and in that way I silence the “saboteur”.
I also like to look at myself in the mirror and send waves of love to that beautiful person that I see in front of me, which is me. Sometimes I look straight in the eye and tell myself how proud I am of myself, other times I look at myself in full, and I send myself positive messages, and I imagine having the most extraordinary experiences. Practice having a daily love gesture towards yourself.
3. Your body is your temple
Be flawless and intentional about everything you put on your body, not just because you want to look good, but because you want to feel good. Fill up on nutrients, and leave the empty calories food aside.
Stay away from processed foods, sweets and white flours that take away your energy, focus and affect your mood. Remember, “we are what we eat”, food is transformed in the digestive system to pass into the blood and form your cells, your organs and your thoughts. What we eat affects your body, your mind and your spirit.
4. Learn to say “no”
Stop being available all the time for others and being essential for them. It’s okay if you love them and want to help them, but like goddesses, take time to do what you love and are passionate about. Have fun, sleep well, and don’t overload yourself. Exercise and revitalize so you can do your best. If you are tired, bitter and resentful, you cannot do your best. Only when you take care of yourself you can truly and unreservedly serve the world.
5. Cultivate your spirituality
No matter what you believe in, nurture and cultivate your spirit. Meditate, practice deep breathing, go to mass, do yoga, read a self-help book or the bible. Breathe and connect with yourself. Above all, because after fifty, what motivates and inspires us is what feeds our soul. By exploring your spirituality, you start a boundless journey to get to know yourself, learn about yourself, trust your intuition, and connect with the goddess in you.
6. Have a positive attitude
Forget the old beliefs associated with age that limit and sabotage a full life. Thoughts like “The best thing in my life happened” or “I’m too old for that.” We must not let our minds fill with doubts and uncertainties regarding those years that lie ahead. Quite the contrary, we must embrace the changes to come. Goddesses are timeless and ageless.
7. Connect with your passion
Recognize the things and activities that fill your heart with joy and that make the hours fly by. It may have been a long time since you engaged with them. Take advantage of the fact that you now have the time, do them more often and have more fun. Have new dreams and projects. The plans fill us with enthusiasm and hope. Find your Ikigai,”that” that makes you wake up every morning with a purpose. Reorganize your house, travel to that dream destination or learn a new language. The key to living happily, energetically and whole is having plans for the future. We age poorly when our memories outweigh our projects.
And finally,
8. Be grateful
Every time we give thanks, we realize how much we have. Practice each morning thanking for three blessings you had the day before that made your life easier. You will be amazed at the number of blessings you have received during the day. The practice of gratitude takes us hand in hand with abundance. When you are grateful for the things you have, no matter how small, you will see the blessings increase instantly.
Self-love is a path, a journey. It takes courage, compassion, and practice; it is about recognizing your authentic essence, the goddess in you without time and age, capable of enjoying each of the pleasures that life offers us.
And you know… when you decide to love yourself, and practice these rituals, you will automatically reconnect with your essence, and you will find the goddess in you. You will feel and look better, so much so that you will understand you are the only creator of your life after 50.
