WAP or Lubricated Vagina
(Improve your Sex Life Series Article #2)
What is “WAP”? According to Cardi B, having a WAP means having a very wet vagina. One version of this song was viewed two hundred and eighty-two million times. This song gives the impression that the lubricated female is most desired, and being naturally well lubricated is the norm.
In reality, this is far from being normal. Songs like WAP are putting so much pressure on peri, post, and menopausal stage women as partners will expect a WAP. Unfortunately for women who cannot be naturally lubricated, this can leave them trying to figure out what to do.
Shifting levels of hormones—especially estrogen—during the menopause transition produce changes in a woman’s body. Both the vagina and the external female genitals (vulva) are affected.
According to The North American Menopause Society, the drop in estrogen may cause the tissues of the vulva and the lining of the vagina to become thinner, drier, and less elastic or flexible.
So, back to WAP, no one needs to feel like they need to fit into a category they no longer belong to.
The question that needs to be answered is, how do I acquire the WAP in my current stage of menopause?
The answer is lube and more lube.
Start incorporating lube during sexual intercourse. There are so many different types of lubrication. All you need to do is find one that best suits you and your situation. If you have a significant other, you will need to discuss finding the right lube and how they will be able to support you with this process. If you do not have a significant other, you can incorporate finding the correct lubrication as part of your self-care and rediscovery journey.
No matter which lubrication path you choose you will need to have the lubrication conversation with your significant other. You will need to be honest in your discussion. Explain in detail how you are feeling and how you hope that the use of lubrication will assist in making your sexual experience a more enjoyable one.
When using lubrication, please don’t pour it on like you are pouring rum. You should use a little at a time and when needed. Peri, post, and menopausal stage women who have decided to stop having sexual intercourse because of negative feelings, intercourse being painful, or any other negative experience that you may have had, you too can start to incorporate lube during sexual intercourse.
Now that you are empowered to use lube, let us discuss the importance of doing kegel exercises! I’ll do that in my next article of this series, titled “Strengthen your pelvic floor & kegel exercises”.
Stay tuned!
With sincere satisfaction and a touch of spice.
