What do you see, when you look into the mirror? Has your perception of yourself in the mirror changed over time? Have you ever found yourself beautiful? Do you love yourself no matter what?
We love our pets
There is beautiful ageing, and there are beautiful old women. It is a skill to recognise beauty. We don’t find our pets uglier when they are old. We love our pets, no matter how old and lame they might become.
Is it fear of death that equates ageing with becoming less beautiful in western societies? Age equals death? Therefore youth equals life?
It would be wonderful if we women found ourselves beautiful and loved ourselves at any age. What is so important about beauty? What is so frightening about ugliness? Are there ugly beings at all? Isn’t ugliness just hidden beauty? Who is deciding who or what is beautiful? Is it us as a society?
Health and beauty
Health and beauty are connected. A woman could be healthy and have wrinkles and grey hair, and still look and feel beautiful and honoured. Long life experience should be highly valued. Any woman who has survived longer than half a century, has had to overcome a lot of challenges.
The cells in our bodies constantly renew. What if it is just a belief that our bodies deteriorate with age?
If you lived on your own, without any other human being seeing you, would you dress, and if so, what clothes would you put on? Would you wear a bra? When was your last day hanging out in your pyjamas, just doing what you really wanted to do, and when you wanted to do it?
Nourishment for the soul
To me, that is true freedom, and pure luxury: to do what I want to do, when I want to do it. This is very nourishing for our souls. Our artist self and our inner child can show up, play and have fun. Inner peace and the feeling of fulfilment comes by spending quality time with yourself, without a plan or an instruction. Life wants to be lived and felt and created!
There are many possibilities to age healthily, smoothly and with dignity. I want to conclude my fourth article for Grace-Of-No-Age with a joke:
A 99-year old woman goes to the doctor and complains: “Doctor, my right knee is hurting!“ The doctor says: “If that is all you are suffering from at your age, you should be very thankful!“ The woman replies: “Why doctor, my left knee is the same age and pain-free!“
